Board Evaluation
Strengthen collaboration with honest feedback
Book a non-binding meetingWe offer a board evaluation where the chair, board members, and management each contribute to a comprehensive picture of how collaboration within and around the board functions – and where there is potential for development.
The evaluation is conducted anonymously from home and focuses on contribution, behavior, and collaboration – not personal characteristics. This makes the process safe and constructive, while being valuable for all parties.
Purpose of the Evaluation
- Identify the board's common strengths and areas for development
- Support professional and value-creating board work
- Contribute to an open and trusting dialogue about responsibility and culture
- Opportunity for good conversation and reflection for each individual
Who is Evaluated – and How?
1. Board Members
Each member is evaluated on business understanding, ability to contribute actively, meeting behavior, courage to speak up, and ability to focus on significant issues. We recommend that the evaluation be facilitated by us as an optional service. The purpose of the evaluation is:
- Strengthen interest in understanding the company's business and strategy
- Participate effectively in meetings
- Create space for everyone to contribute new thoughts and ideas
- Better ability to listen and collaborate
- Prioritize attendance and engagement
2. Board Chair
The chair is evaluated on their ability to lead meetings constructively, ensure relevant information, and focus on the right issues – as well as their contribution to good governance and management dialogue. The purpose of the evaluation is:
- Focus on relevant and significant issues
- Lead meetings with value creation and efficiency
- Support management and interaction with ownership and board members
3. Management
Management is evaluated with focus on leadership performance, strategic execution, collaboration with the board, and ability to ensure the company's long-term sustainability and credibility. The purpose of the evaluation is:
- Prioritize visions, mission, and strategic progress
- Attention to company ethics and reputation
- Collaboration and communication with the board
- Strengthen courage and clarity in leadership
Evaluation Scale
- 4 – Exceptionally strong
- 3 – Good+
- 2 – Good-
- 1 – Can improve
BoardMaster evaluation is based on simple principles and clarity. Participants choose between four levels. This makes it easy to give feedback and provides a concrete basis to work from – both individually and as a team.
The Result
Evaluation data is collected, calculated, and presented in an anonymized report with:
- Summary presented in 3 separate documents, divided by the 3 roles: Chair, board member, and management
- Numerical scores shown as achieved, average, and % of possible achievement
- Based on results, a comprehensive characterization of behavior and recommendations for the 3 board roles
- A ready-made material for open dialogue, higher understanding, and recognition – that will strengthen the overall board work
A Development Tool – Not an Exam
Our approach is based on development. The evaluation should always create learning, trust, and collaboration – not uncertainty or personal pressure.
When the board works on itself as a team, the entire company's leadership foundation is strengthened.
